Henry and Sarah McGowan (McGown) - 1830's - County Antrim, Ireland

Henry McGown (shoemaker) and his wife Sarah, nee Mark had a son John in County Antrim about 1836 (probably born in Bellamin Couthy, Antrim in 1835). John moved to Scotland in the early 1850s, and from 1854 was working at the Coltness Iron Works, Newmains, Lanarksshire, Scotland (parish of Cambusnethan). In that Parish John married Elizabeth Savage, daughter of John Savage (also from County Antrim) and Margaret Todd (from the Parish of Cambusnethan)on 19/12/1862 - around this time he became known as McGowan.
John and Elizabeth had 2 daughters Margaret and Sarah (Sarah died about 2yrs of age), followed in 1870 by Henry and in 1873 by John. In 1879 they emigrated to Otago, New Zealand.
