Don't know if you can be of any help to me on my John McGowan abt 1880. I read your entry of part 1 and 11 and much earlier than what i'm looking for.
Susan Watts sent me info that Bernard McCormick who died in 1883 and was the brother of Mrs. John McGowan. Bernard is connected to my line of McCormick's through a DAR entry by Josephine McCormick Martin daughter of Rev. Charles McCormick son of Rev. William H. McCormick. When I visited the Trenton Library they said it may have been a plant which was the practice to get into the DAR at the time. The entry for Bernard 1880 is empty until My Hiram G. McCormick shows up in 1840 and really can't find any other connection. Susan asked me to look up some info for her while in Trenton (which still sits on my desk after a year)and when I passed on the info on the possibe plant of Hiram G into Bernard's family she stopped
correspondence with me.
I have a copy of obit from "The Jerseyman Newspaper dated Friday, Dec. 21, 1883 page 3 stating:
Ex-Alderman Bernard McCormick of Newark, died at his residence in that city, yesterday, aged abt 70 years. He was a naative of Morristown but spent all of his business life in Newark, where he was for many years grocer in the city. He was the a member of the Board of Alderman from 1815 to 1852. Mr. McCormick was a brother of Mrs. John McGowan of this Township.
Any help would be appreciated.
