Patricia McGovern
Patricia M. McGovern, 70, a Severna Park resident, died August 27 at her home after fighting a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Patricia was born April 20, 1941 in Aurora, IL. After graduating East Aurora High School with honors, she was a secretary at Barber Greene in Aurora. She continued her secretarial profession at Sears Regional Sales Office in Aurora before taking on the full time job of motherhood in 1964. After her children were in school. Pat held various position at Briggs Mfg,, Dekalb Equip. Leasing and IMSA Academy. In 1963, she married Tom McGovern, and the couple made their home in the North Aurora, IL for 16 yrs, before relocating to Batavia, IL in 1979. After 56 years in IL, the couple relocated to Norton, MA, then to Maryland, where they lived in Huntingtown before finally relocating in 2004 to Severna Park, to be close to their grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed travel of all kinds whether it was by VW camper, cruise ship, motor home, or airplane. She traveled throughout the continental US, to Alaska and Hawaii, and also internationally to Ireland, Germany, Italy, Africa, Greece, Turkey, much of the Caribbean, and finally to Bermuda this past May. Pat lent her volunteer services to schools, hospital auxiliaries, Meals on Wheels, and Chesapeake Treasures in Severna Park. She was active member at St. John the Evangelist Church in bible studies, money counting and Catholic Daughters of America and supported her husband in Knights of Columbus and other church activities. Pat enjoyed gardening her yard full of flowers and plants. She is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; an infant daughter who died in 1966, Anastasia. She is survived by her husband, Tom of 48 years of marriage; her loving daughter, Dr. Leslie McGovern; her son, Barry and wife Ruth (Copps); three brothers, Larry Pfeiffer of Spring Valley, IL, Glen of Plano, IL, and Fred of Princeton, IL.; three grandchildren, Tommy, Megan and Rachael; eight nieces; and six nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 10 at St. John Evangelist in Severna Park. The Mass will be followed by a rosary by Catholic Daughters of America and Knights of Columbus in the Grotto at The Columbian Center, (weather permitting), or in the church. An Open House will be held at the Christopher Lounge in the Columbian Center, 335 N, Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park, MD 21146 from 3 to 6 p.m.. To honor Patricia, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus #3413 at the above address to Landscape the Memorial to the Unborn and for plantings for the Grotto of Mary.
