Good morning Colin,
I was so interested in your e-mail even though made a few years back. I have been trying to find the McGugan's from earlier that 1700's as I have traced mine back to Donald McGugan b.1757 married Katherine McMillan b.1761. Further down the tree Malcolm McGugan marries for the second time to a Catherine McMillan in 1828 so I am also looking for McMillan's as well. In fact I would like to find what ship they emmigrated on. I have heard that it was the "Rebecca" but have been unsuccessful so far in finding that name with passenger lists. We think it would have been around the 1820's. Do you have any pointers for me?
Can you also tell me where you researched the earlier than 1750's MCGUGAN'S and advise me as to how I can go further back in my research? What led you to the connection to the MacNeil's. I know historically it might have been expediant for them to change their name for political reasons but am not sure of that either.
Hope to hear from you soon.
