A young woman named Elizabeth McGougan or Mc Googan married my Great Great Grandfather James Harris Beckwith in the town of Buctouche, New Brunswick in 1828. Family accounts suggest she was of Scotch descent and was from Prince Edward Island. For a time they lived and farmed on Prince Edward Island. I know nothing more of her origins. There were a number of families on the island who spelled their name McGuigan, but they all seem to be from Ireland, and apparently settled on PEI later. I cannot connect her to these families. The Annabella story now suggests where her family may have originated. Do you have any more information on these families?
