I have an ancestor, Nancy "McGoogan". She was born in 1820 and died in Belle Plaine, Iowa, US in 1865. Family story has it that she was Scot/Irish. I have located a John McGoogan in the 1920 census, 62 years old that was born in Scotland, his mother tongue is Scottish and his father was born in Ireland, however, his mother was born in Scotland. That would tie in with the information I have about my great-great grandmother Nancy McGoogan Fletcher who was married to Naim Fletcher 6 Dec., 1837 at Morrow Co., Iowa. John's wife, Jane (?) was also born in Scotland. I show that they immigrated to the US in 1883 and that they became citizens in 1884 or 1894. My question is this....do we tie in with your McGookins? If you think there may be a tie-in, please let me know as I have been searching long and hard for this connection and have just recently found Nancy in the census records in Liberty Township, Knox County, Ohio in 1860. Her husband's name is listed on the cover page as Narin. However, it is actually Naim. It's Series M653; Roll 995; Page 310. It lists five children, the last of which, David (8) is my great grandfather.
