While researching my husband's JOPLIN line, I ran across the following:

From "The Jopling-Joplin Family with Some of Their Connections in England and America" compiled by Dorothy (Jopling) Eason, Sarah (Moseley) Fricks and Lucille (Jopling) Adams, page 259---

Daniel Bluford Jopling
b. 16 Dec., 1854 in Polk County, Arkansas
d. 25 Jan., 1918 in Polk County, Mena, Arkansas. Buried in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Polk County, Mena, Arkansas.
m. 4 Jan., 1877, Polk County, Arkansas to Melissa Jane SCOTT (b. 24 May, 1857 d. 23 Mar., 1905), daughter of James SCOTT and Melissa MCGLOGHIN (sic) of Tennessee. William W. Green was minister.

Children:
1. Martha (Mattie) Elizabeth
2. Cora
3. John Ed
4. Dexter b. 17 April, 1885 Polk Co., Ark. d. young
5. Ozie

1880 Census - Cove Township, Polk County, Arkansas

Daniel B. Jopling farmer Ark Tenn Tenn
Millesa J. Jopling wife Tenn Tenn Tenn
Martha E. Jopling dau Ark Ark Tenn

There is no further information in the above cited book about this McGloughlin or Scott family but there were some clues to the parentage of Melissa McGloughlin Scott. Upon further research, there seem to be quite a few McGlothlin's in Sumner County, Tennessee but I have been unable to make a definite connection with this Melissa McGlothlin. I did find a Melissa McGlothlin listed on the McGlothlin Family Genealogy Forum. She was born about 1839 in Missouri. Her father was listed as John McGlothlin, born 1794 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Is there a connection here? If so, then the above mentioned census is incorrect (which is not absolutely unheard of), but I don't know. If anyone has any further information I would be very interested. I hope that my little bit of info is useful to someone.
