Myrta K. Clingan's middle name was Kate. She was born in 1866 in Polk City, Iowa. Her parents were Robert L. Clingan and Elizabeth Clingan (maiden name was Morrison). She was the first born child. She had 3 brothers and two sisters. I can find that only one brother went on to have children. His name was Fay M. Clingan, his chilren were born in Orange County, California: Robert L. was born in 1914 and Carol E. was born in 1917.
Myrta Clingan died in 1888. I am going to look up the exact date of death. It would seem that maybe she died as a result of childbirth as her child was born in 1888. I didn't know where she was buried. Is Avon cemetary in Des Moines?
It is interesting that her child's middle name is Merton. I have a letter that was written to James Clingan of Crown Point, In. who is Robert L. Clingan's brother (Myrta's father) and the letter was written by Jacob Merton also of Crown Point. Jacob Merton wrote to James Clingan to tell him of the death of James Clingan's son, James D. Clingan during the civil war. Jacob Merton saw him in hospital in Huntsville, AL. the evening that he died. James Clingan also bought a store in Crown Point from A.H. Merton.
Thanks so much for replying to my email about the McGlothlen family. I am still searching for descendants in California. I have written to some Clingan people in Orange County, but so far have not found anyone related to Robert L. or Carol E. Clingan.
