Deceased Name: Rose Marie McGivern Hogan
Rose Marie McGivern Hogan, 72, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, in Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Joseph McGuire. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton, where a vigil service begins at 7 p.m.

Rose was born Jan. 14, 1933, on a farm south of Marengo, to Francis and Carrie (Kuebler) McGivern, and graduated from Carson High School in Marengo in 1951. She received her teaching degrees from Upper Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa. On Aug. 9, 1968, she married Robert "Bob" Hogan at Rock Island, Ill. Her preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1972.

She was a dedicated teacher for 37 years, having taught in the Vinton school system for 30 years.

Rose is survived by her sons, Jeff Hogan of West Liberty and Kurt Hogan of Vinton; her grandchildren, Nic, Alex, Zac and Dalton Hogan, all of West Liberty; her sister, Kathleen Michalek

of Victor, Rita (Dr. James) Maharry of Dana Point, Calif., and Connie (John) Graham of Atlanta, Ga.; her brother, Kevin (Janet) McGivern of Mokena, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, an infant brother and sister preceded her in death.

A memorial fund has been established for the cardiac-pulmonary unit at Virginia Gay Hospital and the Iowa Lung Association.
