Hi Penny,
I have not seen anything specifically on this Janet. I went to the Barbour County site, where I found the McGilvery research page. After looking at that, then going back to my copy of the Steiner book on the Macs of Skye, I am wondering if in fact this Janet wasn't a Chisholm. Since she left her estate to a Roderick Chisholm and sister, that seems to be logical. I am also wondering if she went by the name of Mary. The Steiner book has a listing for a Malcolm McGilvary who was bn. 1787 in Skye, and died in Richmond, N.C. His wife, a Mary ______ , was bn. 1785 in Skye, and died by 1870 in Barbour County. Their children were Duncan, John, Daniel, and Malcolm, plus an unknown male. These names and their birthdates match the names at the Barbour County site. Maybe some linkage, I don't know. Do you get any help from the census data? My next time to the library, I'll check the Macs in Barbour.
Sorry it took a few days to respond. I am 3 weeks off of hip surgery, and I have had some issues. All looks good to recovery now, and my Doc has released me to attend the Buffalo Missouri Scottish Games so I can put up our Clan MacGillivray tent. Ya just can't keep a Scotsman down!!
Take care,
