My father was Norman Edward BROWNLEE, b. 7 Feb 1896 in Algiers (New Orleans), LA USA, Grandson of John BROWNLEE b. 22 Jan 1818, Belfast, N.I. I was quite surprised when I got a copy of Dad's birth record and it listed him as Norman McGill BROWNLEE! I knew that there was a connection between our BROWNLEE family and the McGILL family of Canada, but do not know whether it is to my Great Grandfather's wife Mary Anne SPENCE of New York City or directly to BROWNLEE. Mt Great Grandfather and his brothers Edward and WIlliam came to the U.S. from Belfast, via Canada. They went to New York, then William "went west." Edward and my GGF John, now married to Mary Anne, came to New Orleans, LA. Brother Edward returned to Canada (he is the Grandfather of Alberta Premier John Edward BROWNLEE, QC, LLD) and Grandpa raised his family in New Orleans. If anyone knows the connection between the McGILL and BROWNLEE/SPENCE families, I would appreciate the information. It is also said in the family that we are also connected to the FUQUA family of Tarrytown, NY, but I have no idea how. Henry F. BROWNLEE Houma, LA Notify Administrator about this message?
