Steve,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back with you but haven't done much research in the last few months.

I'm trying to tie James Franklin McGill to William H. McGill. Haven't been able to do it so far but am still working. If I can tie them together James Franklin would be my husband's gg-grandfather.

This is what I've found so far.

On the l950 Census from Houston County it shows James McGill, 25 years old from Ala.
Elizabeth, 21 years old (probably Elizabeth Duren) from Ala.
Franklin, 4 years old, born in Mississippi
William, 2 years old, born in Cherokee Cnty.
George, 2 months old, born in Houston Cnty.

On the 1870 Cherokee County census you refer to I think that Luvis is really Laura Jane. I found her and other sibling information relating back to James Franklin McGill and Elizabeth Duren on the LDS website.

Laura Jane McGill was born in Guadalupe County, Texas in 1861. She married a man named Rocellus McKinney also from Guadalupe County, Texas. They lived and died in Guadalupe County, Texas. Laura Jane's parent were James F. McGill and Elizabeth Duren.

Next on the 1910 census of Guadalupe County I find Mollie McGill (Laura Jane's niece)living with Laura Jane (she is Jennie McKinney on the census)and Rocellus McKinney. Mollie McGill is one of the daughter's of William McGill.

One the 1900 census of Lavaca County, Texas I find William McGill who is widowed living with his three children Willie Evelyn, born in Alto, Texas, Mollie Amanda, born in Alto, Texas and George Samuel, born in Hallettsville, Texas.

I'm trying to track James further back but haven't had much luck so far. Not having much luck finding Amanda (Mandy) Holyfield either.

I think there is a connection here just don't know how.

I'll keep you posted on what I find on James if you'll do the same.

Thanks...................Sandi
