The 1870 census for Cherokee County, Texas lists James McGill and fmaily living in Alto. James is said to be age 48 and wife, Elizabeth is 26. This is the second marriage for both. They married in 1866. James has children by his first marriage (William H. ?, George, David, Margaret, Luvis). Elizabeth has son William Henry Murphy from her first marriage. Child James, age 5, is believed to have been born to this marriage. Elizabeth was bn Elizabeth Mallory, bn 1843, Talladega Co AL.
I have pretty good info on Elizabeth but need to trace ancestry of James McGill (middle initial believed to be "F") and he is believed to have been born in TN abt 1822. We think his first marriage may have been to Elizabeth Ann Duren, also of TN, in Cherokee Co Texas, 1845 but this is not certain.
I would like to find anything about James McGill, his origins, family, etc. I would especially like to make contact with any descendants of this family. Steve
