Dear Sir:

This is just a quick note to indicate the theory that I am working with.

Elizabeth McGhie of Balmaghie married Ferguson of Craigdarroch now listed under Cunnyingham of Caprington.

The Cauldwell Researcher suggests that Elizabeth had a twin born in 1669, named Joan.

Joan also came to America from Ireland.

McGhie of Balmaghie had land in Stewartry in Lower Scotland and either land or business interests in Ireland.

Elizabeth McGhie's mother, Elizabeth Stewart, was I believe the second wife of Alexander McGhie of Balmaghie.

Branch Ferguson family suggests that Elizabeth had a brother of who you write that was transported.

Elizabeth Stewart, was either the sister of or was the neice of the Stewart that married John Knox.

See www.stirnet/british/genie/ stewart14/
This site has been recently updated and does not link exactly but I think is the family.

I have additional people not listed as "from Castle Stewart"
There are two Castle Stewarts, one in Tyrone, Ireland and one in Glasserton Parrish Lower Scotland. This Castle family ends about 1800 with the sale of the property.

So many records are just becoming available on microfilm in the US from Salt Lake. Still others are in Edinbough.

Let's keep in touch. If I find a proof for Elizabeth mcghie parents and you find your way to the parent of John McGhie, I'll share.

Dean W. Sandeman
