dear researcher,

I am working of Elizabeth M'Ghie who married Lt. Col. John Ferguson of Craigdarroch who died at Battle of Killecrankie 1688. Her great grandson became a "painter and glazier" in Dumfries and as far as I have learned may have been an apprentice of a M'Ghie "painter and glazier" Most of the M'Ghie in this area are related before the 1694 beginnings of record keeping in the local parishes. Elizabeth M'Ghie was of the M'Ghie family of Balmaghie in Kirkcudbright and inter-related to Steward, Gordons, and BAlMClellands of the same area. The problem is that the only way to trace in these years is though land records.
