My husband's Great Grandfather was the same Daniel McGettigan who emigrated to Lewis County, West Virginia and married Bridget O'Riley. The family appears in the census there for 1860. Then they appear in the 1870 census in Nodaway County, Missouri. The daughter Ella McGettigan married John Joseph Corcoran, Jr. and they are my husband's grandparents who are buried in St.Joseph, Missouri. My husband and his father were named for John Joseph Corcoran, Sr. (born in County Cork, Ireland) and Daniel McGettigan (born in County Donegal, Ireland). They are John Daniel Corcoran, Sr. (buried in St. Joseph, Missouri) and John Daniel Corcoran, Jr. Note that Daniel McGettigan is buried in the Conception Abbey cemetery in Nodaway County, Missouri as is John Joseph Corcoran, Sr. They were both landowners in the area and helped build Conception Abbey according to family history. One sister of Ella McGettigan was Kathleen McGettigan. She graduated from a medical school in St. Joseph, Missouri and set up a practice in Kansas City and later in Denver, Colorado. Please contact us so we can colaborate on our family history. We do not have pictures of the McGettigans and hope that your family might have some. I sent an e-mail to you also.
