Another nugget of info found about my gg-gf John McGeough in the Thurday, January 29, 1874 edition of the Newtown Register:
The flag of the Laurel Hill Benevolent Society was displayed half-mast from Sunday to Thursday evening, in respect to the memory of Mr. John McGeough and Mr. James McCormack, members of the Society and residents of Laurel Hill, who died last week.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who might have any information on the Laurel Hill Benevolent Socity. Thanks!
