I believe you have the story about the death of McGeorge partially correct. According to newspaper (Fredericton Daily Gleaner) write up, the shooting was instigated over a whitetail deer. The account stated that the deer had been killed by McGeorge and shortly after an aboriginal man claimed that he had wounded the animal and was tracking it for a considerable time and it should be turned over to him. A manhunt was instigated by the police and they chased the aboriginal for some time and it is recorded that in trying to escape he jumped over the top of Pokiok Falls and eluded them for a while longer.
My Grandfather was Robert McGeorge and I have done some research into his background which is listed on Ancestry.ca
