Hi Mary,
I'm sorry for the delay in replying to your post.My ancient computer finally decided its days were over, so I've been working on transferring files, etc. to a new toy.
I used the Civil War letter as a focal point for a genealogy lecture and I've just finished putting the summary online. The letter is transcribed at this site:
The scanned images of the two pages are included at the foot of this page. You should be able to download these images or just link to the site.If you run into problems, please let me know and I can send you photocopies. The full source citation for the letter is:
Pension Application Files Based upon Service in the Civil War and Spanish American War, 1861-1934, Records of the Veterans Administration, RG 15, National Archives. Samuel Ward Jr., 17th Vermont Infantry, Samuel Ward Father's Pension Certificate 350,525.
I hope the extended McGeorge family finds the letter interesting.
Sincerely,
Sue Johnston
