Are you getting as frustrated as I am about Hugh's genealogy?
Oddly enough, I too have a Shovelin connection. James and Mary Shovelin were the baptismal sponsors of my g-grandf's sister, who was the first born McG on my side in America. This baptism was recorded at St. Joseph's Church in Carbon Co. (same church as Hugh's) on 5 May 1858. These Shovelins lived about 11 houses away from my gg-grandp's (Thomas & Mary McG) in Summit Hill, according to the 1860 census. When my g-grandf Patrick McG was baptised in 1860 his sponsors were Patrick & Maria Rafter (Do these names mean anything?)
I seem to recall about ten or so years ago someone contacted me from NJ who was looking into a judge. But this judge was in NYC. I believe his name was Thomas McG (the judge, that is). I can't recall the name of the guy who contacted me; I'd have to scrounge around a bit. We weren't at all connected, but could this be a connection to you?
Anyway, thanks for the response. Someday I hope to get to the bottom of this Hugh mystery. I figure somewhere back there we are all connected.
