Sorry for any confusion.Unfortunately, I didn't realize the posting would remove TABs I had inserted that would have set the families appart a little better.Instead, the tabs became spaces.Regardless ... the numbers represent generations. For example:
1-- Mathew McGarvey
SP-Eunice
2-- Mary
SP-Barney DIRKER
2-- Elizabeth McGarvey
SP-Peter NAIL
3-- Philip NAIL
2-- Elizabeth
2-- Hamilton McGarvey
SP-Lucinda HEADING/HEDDING
3-- Issac "Ike" McGarvey
SP-Mary PATTON
...
Mathew (1st generation) is the father of all those with a number "2".Those without numbers ("SP-"), of course, are the spouses of the name preceding them (as in Barney, spouse of Mary).
Those with a number 3 (3rd generation) are children of people with a number 2 immediately preceding them (as in generation 3, Philip, is the child of generation 2, Elizabeth McGarvey and Peter Nail). Another example is generation 3 Issac, the son of Hamilton and Lucinda.
The number pattern repeats with generations 4, 5, etc.
I hope I answered your question. If not, please let me know and I'll try to be clearer.
