I found your message on the McGarvey family website and believe I have some information for you, and am hoping you have more for me.
My great grandmother was Hanna McGarvey from Penn.My father wrote that she lived near the Pittsburgh area.Hanna married Anthony Mokate (picture attached) and according to my dad had 6 sons and one daughter. One of the sons, Herman was my grandfather, his sister Marie, also lived here in Chicago and I met her quite a few times when I was young.
They have a very interesting story which my dad, William (Bill) Mokate chronicled before his death in 1986.I have their history which is pretty tragic, all in all.I also think I have Anthony and Hanna's wedding picture somewhere.
My dad wrote that he thought they were from Killarney Ireland, then went to Scotland, then to Pittsburgh, where they eventually had a large family. He visited the family in1940 with his father Herman Mokate and remembered them being a large, noisey and happy family, even though Hanna was rather quiet.Anthony, who was from Holland was more like his Irish relatives than she was.Anthony moved to Chicago after Hanna died and the family scattered.
Please email me and let me know if this sound like info you want. Also, if you have any more information on their lives in Ireland or Scotland, I would appreciate it.
