I have a little information. John Henry was married to Margaret Theodorcia Shaw.Their children were Captain James McGarry, Henry J. McGarry, Margaret McGarry, John McGarry,Ellen McGarry and Thomas McGarry.Thomas was born May 11, 1841 in County Cork, Ireland.
The story I was told (but it is undocumented) was that John "Henry" McGarry (possibly originally McGarrighan) was a political discident who left Ireland with son, Henry and emigrated to Canada(where he had some brothers). The story is that Margaret came from some money and while in hiding in Ireland, Henry and Margaret and their family lived on her family's land in a servants quarters. John Henry died on the voyage over to Canada and son, Henry, was taken in by his uncles. Some time later, Margaret and the rest of the children joined him in Canada.
Thomas married Bridget Ellen Masterson who was born January 6, 1857 in Pakenham, Lanark County, Ontario Canada. This leads me to believe that the John Henry McGarry family lived in that area of Canada before entering the states. The children of Thomas and Bridget were born in Wisconsin and North Dakota.
The information I have is that John Henry was born in 1802 in Longford County, Ireland and died between 1845 - 1848 of Typhoid Fever, assumed laid to rest on Grosse Isle.Margaret Theodorcia Shaw was born in 1803 and her father was Burton Shaw.
I received this information from Linda Marie Hanning, wife of Horace "Roger" Stephens. She had done extensive work on the family history and is related to John Henry through Thomas and his first wife, Catherine Riley born in county Cavan, Ireland.Thomas and Catherine had four children, Margaret and Terran (twins, Terran died shortly after birth), Julia and John. Catherine died age 23 and John Henry married Bridgit.Linda is related to Margaret.
