Shawn and followups, I don't know whether it would prove to be the family under discussion, but... You may want to look next door in Chester Co., SC for possible leads. My Rives line goes through there. Frances Rives (born Brunswick Co., VA in 1761) married by 1785 Henry E. Jordan (born about 1755 in VA). They died in Chester Co. Their daughter Tempie "married a John Magarity and moved west." This according to Childs' "Reliques of the Ryves." By 1805 or so it appears that she married Reuben Gill. Their child, Joseph Howell Gill was born, according to census records, in SC. Tempie and Reuben wound up in present-day Pike Co, MS. All six of their children are listed as Gills. While it's possible there was adoption involved, it appears that she and John probably had no children before whatever happened, happened. Good hunting, David Notify Administrator about this message?
