John McGarrigle 1/20/02
John McGarrigle formerly of Havertown, PA died on July 1st, 2002 after a long struggle with cancer. He would have been 58 last Friday October 4th. John was one of nine children of Charles and Sarah (nee McCrae) McGarrigle of Strabane, County Tyrone.
Their children from eldest to youngest are: Alice, Mary, Charles, Elizabeth, Anita, Monica, John (1944-2002), Bernadette (1946-1992), and Brian. I am a bit sketch on the
order of the elder chilren. My mother, Monica, came here in 1960 and worked as a nanny for two years for a family out in Rosemont. Bernadette followed here here in 1965. John followed in 1970. Brian came about a year or two later.
Elizabeth has left Eire and settled in Yorkshire. She is recently retired. Charles also resides in England in Surrey. Alice lives in Omagh, Anita is somewhere in the free state. Lastly, Mary still lives up the head of the town in Strabane.
I am not sure that you are related to my Uncle John, but you would have liked him. He was ever the host. He was a master carpenter. He was also very well educated. I do not think there is a book that man had not read! He loved all thinks Irish. He could infuriate anyone with his clever arguments and sharp wit. There was never a dull moment with John about. I will miss him always.
