According to genealogy records John and George McGarrah (Thomas' brothers)were born 1804/05 in Caney Fork, TN. Caney Fork was never the name of a town in Tenn. In fact it is the name of a river in Tenn. that forms the southern bonundary of White County.

1820 census, White Co, TN, Anna McGorroe, 2 males under 10 yrs, 1 female under 10 yrs, 1 female 25-46 yrs, 1 slave. In late 1820's - early 1830's William McGarr and Thomas McGarr start appearing on White Co, TN land records as does Anna McGarrah.
