I just received an e-mail from someone in Ireland and she gave me information on the name McGarity.
It is a anglicised variation of (Mac) Geraghty - from the Irish Mag Oireachtaigh meaning 'member of assembly'.
(Mac) Geraghtys were an important family group in the west of Ireland and were related to the royal O'Connors.
