Hello, My name is James Upchurch, my ggrand father was JAMES MONROE UPCHURCH, his wife was SARAH ELIZABETH McGARITY, first daughter of WILSON McGARITY, & ANGELINE McMULLAN, WILSON'S was first son of ABNER McGARITY, & MARY SCALES, of Elbert Co., Georgia. This we all agree on, who comes next? Is it JOHN, JAMES, WILLIAM, PATRICK, MICHAEL, OR CLEMENS, That is the names I have seen on this site, or their others? The refferrence's & record indicate that they resided in Chester/Craven Distric's. I have found a MICHAEL (MAGARROTY/MEGARRITY/McGARRITY) McGARITY in the records of Virginia/North & South Carolina. The first record puts him in the French & Indian War, July 09, 1754 Michael was wounded @ Will's Creek, he was in Capt. Robert Stobo's Co. The second record Feb 03, 1767, gives him property in Chester Dist. South Carolina on ridge between Fishing & Turkey Creek (227a). On Alexander Love's & Rosse's lines. (File 2268/Grant 256/Book 23/pg. 178) Issued from Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, Grants in South Carolina. The third record of Craven/Chester is on Jun 06, 1767 for a Grant for 400a Eastside Broad Branch of Turkey Creek. Ajoining Alexander Love's corner, Michael Megarrity's line. (File 2250/Grant 409/Book 23/pg. 157) The forth record of Craven/Chester is a purchase on Apr. 29, 1768 of 26a surplus by Alexander Love, adjoining his own, Blany Mills, Michael Magarroty's (File 2557/Grant 568/Book 23/pg. 312. The fifth record of Craven/Chester is dated July 04,1769 for 150a on Turkey Creek, Michael McGarrity's line. (File 0100/Entry 316 dated Dec. 16, 1769 not Issued.) The sixth record of Craven/Chester is a purchase on Jan. 06, 1773, by Robert Bradford on Turkey Creek of 206a, on Joseph Gladney, Daviason, John Ross's, & Michael McGarity's line. There is also a record of a probate for a MICHAEL McGARITY in Chester Dist., S. C. in Book 1 pg. 52. I have only found these records in transcribed form, not the original's to see if there is any other info. Has anyone seen these records? Is there any other records on MICHAEL McGARITY (1725c-(1770-1815) I use 1725 as a birth because of the service in the French & Indian War. This would make him old enough to be The Father of the Chester Dist. S.C. McGARITY'S. There are many questions on this family that I do not have acceptable answer for, is there a group I can join with to help find thoes answers? Thanks Jim Notify Administrator about this message?
