I have a database of McGalliards. An Elizabeth McGalliard Mosley, who died in New Mexico, was born in N.C., the daughter of William H. McGalliard and his first wife. According to family lore(there are more than one version), this William H. McGalliard had two families, the first of which he left, never coming back after the Civil War. Some say he joined the Confederate army, deserted and joined the Union Army, and that's why he never came back. There are more than one William McGalliard in the records. Elizabeth had a brother named William Joseph McGalliard and a sister. More detailed research needs to be done on this family.
