From my records...

State of Pennsylvania SS
Huntington County

On this 3rd day of April A.D. 1872 before me a justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid personally appeared Robert Patton McPherran (McFerran – spelling used)[Note: Andrew's son] and after being duly sworn doth depose and say, that he is now a resident of Byron Township in the county of Buchanan and State of Iowa. That I was born in Hopewell Township County of Huntington in the state of Pennsylvania. That I have lived in said state all my lifetime up to June 1866 at which ti8me I left the state of Pennsylvania and have since resided in the state of Iowa, until last Fall, about September 1871. I returned and am now in my native county and State. I am a son and heir of Andrew McFerran that mothers name was Martha McFerran. That my father and mother were married and lived sometime near Little York, Penna. As I understand and verily believe, and that his father’s name was (I think) John McPherran, but am not sure. I do not remember having seen my Grandfather but have seen my Grandmother. I think my Grandfather lived on a farm near Little York and lived there and that my father was born and lived some time on the same farm and left there to serve in the Revolutionary War. I am very sure that my father was the son of the said John McFerran as I have always understood and verily believe. The family births occurred as follows: 1st Rebecca now deceased, 2nd, John now dead, 3rd, Mary better known as Polly deceased; 4th, James now dead, 5th, Robert Patton, 6th Samuel now deceased, 7th, William now dead, 8th Adams who was born Feb. 2nd A.D. 1806. I remember well his birth he was the offspring of the lawful union of Andrew and Martha McFerran whose maiden name was Martha Adams the daughter of Alexander Adams and I distinctly recollect the birth of Adams McFerran by the circumstance of my mother calling me to her room to see my little brother. I further remember that my Grandmothers maiden name was Sterling.

Furthermore Andrew McFarin was raised near Little York in York county; and his wife, Martha Adams was raised in Adams County in a place called Carroll’s Tract; After the wife of Andrew McFarin thence from York County to the Long Hollow in Mifflin County near McVeytown and from that place to the Race Town Branch in Huntington County Pa. Hopewell Township. The whole family was raised in the last place mentioned but two, Rebecca and John of Andrew and Martha McFarin formerly Martha Adams and she Martha McFarin the wife of Andrew McFarindied in 1814 and was buried on the homestead in Race Town Branch (Raystown) of the Juniata in Hopewell Township. And Andrew McFarin in some eight or ten years moved upon the little Juniata at what is now called Spruce Creek (was Graysport) and there died near thirty five years ago and was buried in Sinking Valley at the Presbyterian Church Huntington County now Blair Co. and I Robert McFarin son of Andrew and Martha McFarin seen my Grandmother at my fathers and she acknowledged me and all my brothers and sisters to be her Grandchildren and she likewise said that she was a daughter of Sanders Sterling of Scotland.

Also...

According to tradition and historical accounts my father (Andrew McFerrin) was born in York County in the state of Penn. On his fathers farm. His mother was the second wife of Grandfather and father’s brother John was the oldest son of Grandfather by his second wife, by his first wife he (Grandfather) had three sons and one or two daughters. I remember father speaking of his half-brother William. I do not know whether or not Grandfather was married or not before he came to York County or whether he brought his family with him from Scotland. My father the aforesaid Andrew McFerrin lived with his father on a farm in York County State of Penn. In the year 1776 A.D. after which he enlisted in Captain Church’s Company and served during the Revolutionary War for which he drew a pension from the United States Govt. I further know that after his return home he got married after which he moved to Huntington County State of Penn. Where he raised his family.

Saml. McFerrin

Hope this helps!
