Sorry hit the worng key.

My mcFie research is in it's infancy. I had thought that Laura Rayner Nee wilson was my GGmother, but on one of those nights when the brain was in overdrive I realised that there were several gaps in ggfather Robert's history and plenty of room for at least one extra marriage. Sure enough his current tally is 3 possibly 4 marriages. Further research confirmed a marriage but the only way to be sure was to obtain Grandads Birth cert.

This confirmed that ggmother was Jane Mcfie, her father was Archibald Mcfie (I also obtained a wedding cert!) and one witness to the wedding was James McFie. She married Robert Rayner (A Postman) on june 6th 1892 in St Andrews Stockwell. This is in London. She had three children Archibald Bryce (Some help on this would also be appreciated , I have no Bryce ancestors and no idea where this was from.) Janet and Donald Duncan who was my grandfather. These names alone should confirm a scottish link but I wanted to be sure. Add to this the name of my father Donald Kenneth and it became almost a certainty.

The only birth in any way similar to this took place in Newcastle near the English Scottish border but the name of the lady was confusing.

The earliest Rayner ancestor I have is Stephen Rayner , Robert's father born in 1820.

I am too experienced in researching to hope for a connection but it is interesting that the name Rayner seems to ring a bell for you. Here's hoping.

Phil
