McFARLANE, Waterloo, - Representative from Black Hawk county, was born at Waterloo, Iowa, April 14, 1885; educated in the public schools and was graduated from high school in 1904. Was married April 6, 1908, to Miss Elsie V. Hawkins. He is now engaged in the wholesale fuel business, with headquarters at Waterloo. Belongs to Christ Episcopal church, being a vestryman of that church. Is a member of the various branches of the Masonic order, including El-Kahir Shrine; Knights of Pythias; Elks; Loyal Order of Moose; and is a supreme officer of the United Commercial Travelers. Elected a member of the Iowa house of representatives in 1914, re-elected in 1916-18 and 1920. Was speaker protem of the thirty-seventh general assembly; speaker of the house of the thirty-eighth, thirty-eighth special, and thirty-ninth general assemblies. Elected to the senate in 1926 as a member of the forty-second general assembly. Elected lieutenant governor in November, 1928, and re-elected in November, 1930. Elected as representative in 1932.
