Re: Ancestry.com & "McFarland or MacGregor"
It seems that I have been quoted on at least a dozen different websites on Ancestry.com, without my permission. Apparently, many folks have been to the Rootsweb site of Patrick McDonald (NZ)"Family of Malu Del McDonald, etc" or perhaps his home page; in any case he and I exchanged some emails years ago in regards to the Daniel McFarland line. I can say that he had my permission to use any material I sent him in these emails...however...I cannot say the same for the many folks who have copied his info/data directly from his site (probably without his permission)and published it electronically (ie, put it on their own website). It seems that there are folks out there who may never have had a course in college regarding the correct way to footnote, or how to do a Bib. Regarding those who do not know how to footnote, you need to state the sources of the info/data you copy, if not in the text then in the Bib. But, this type of plagiarism, seems endemic to Ancestry.com, and made all the easier when they make it "point and click" plagiarism. To those who copied the emails, please give credit where is credit is due, both toPatrick McDonald and myself. If you dont know how, then I am sure the help-desk at Ancestry.com will help you out. If it is too late and you have already "point and click copied" the data/info I now grant permisssion to use my comments/data, but I cannot speak for Patrick McDonald. /s/ Earl MacFarland ([email protected])
