I am from Madison Co TN long ago and I have a hit on FTDNA Family Finder for a Frances Mays McFarland. I haven't checked the connection out yet so don't have any detail on kinship. Your mention of McFarland caught my eye here on the DNA Forum.
Family Finder is an alternative research direction following your husband's yDNA test eventually and if you pursue your family history research.
The Family Tree yDNA is for sure your best bet and the more markers you can test the better your results will be.
