Hi Donna,
Thank you for contacting me.I'm afraid I have no information to add to your McEvoy line.
I am descended from Mary McAvoy who married Owen Rice on 3 July 1836 at the Leitrim RC Church. They lived in the townland of Ballymagreehan, near Castlewellan in Upper Drumgooland Parish.I have no other specific information about her.I estimate her birth in about 1812.
There are so many McAvoys/McEvoys in Drumgooland Parish that it will be very difficult to trace them unless you know the townland where they lived.
In the Tithe Applotment Books for 1824-37, 17 men with the last name of McAvoy are listed in Ballymagreehan townland alone.
I notice that Margaret King is the sponsor listed for theBaptism of Catherine Mc Evoy b. Apr 24, 1868.I have a Margaret King in my line who would have been 17 and unmarried at that time. What Church did this baptism take place in?Leitrim RC Church is where all my family's records have been found. That is in the townland of Leitrim, close to Ballymagreehan.
I have accumulated a lot of information on my Rice family, and a little about the Kings.I will keep your address and contact you if I find anything which may be of use to you.
Ros Davies site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/`rosdavies/http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/`rosdavies/
has been very helpful to me.
I have also had some help from Nan Brennan, who has posted many messages about the families in my line.
Good luck with your research.
Mary
