McEvoy's from Saint Helens & Oldham
Posted by: Ronald McEvoy (ID *****4729) Date: July 14, 2005 at 03:03:04

My research into the McEvoy branch of my family has come to a stop. I would like to find links to Thomas McEvoy's origins. Census reports in Failsworth, Oldham show Thomas birth place as Saint Helens, Lancashire but on looking at the census reports from Saint Helens there are no McEvoy's recorded.

I am trying to find a second link to William McEvoy's (my grandfather's brother) children. William and my grandfather James fell during the 1914/1918 war, I can find no trace of whom he married and what happened to the children after his death.

The third link I would like to make is for Alice McEvoy who was born 1889 in Failsworth, Oldham, Lancashire, and died in Died young leaving two children.. She married UNKNOWN.

I think there is a connection with the Shambles Public House, Manchester where her children lived after her death, and then to an orphanage.

Of the children; a daughter who became a nun the ordination being on the 26 Apr 1934, her given name was Sister Marie Gabriel, she died in 1980. She also had a brother but as yet I have no other information.
