Valentine McEvoy/McAvoy
Here is some information that I have on my family:
My great-grandfather's name was Valentine McEvoy (changedto McAvoy sometime between 1907 and 1910) and he was born in 1845 somewhere in King's County, Ireland. He was a Windsor Castle policeman sometime before he married (I have a picture of him in a uniform). He married Jane Hefferan about 1879, who was also born in Ireland 1845. They had three children born in Ireland, Edward Anthony born in 1880, James born in 1881 and Katherine born in 1883. They emmigrated from Ireland to the US in 1883 and settled in Rush townwhip, Centre county, PA -- they MAY have lived in Portarlington, Kings County, Ireland prior to that (My ggf traveled several times to Ireland and a ship's manifest listed him as being from Portarlington). A fourth child, William was born in 1886, in Rush Township. They Lived in Osceola Mills and Edindale, Centre County, PA.
Edward married Elizabeth Galvin of Houtzdale, Clearfield County, PA in 1921. They had three children: Rita, Edward J.(My father), and Isabel.
James married Stella, and they had eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls whom he mostly called by nicknames: Valentine (Mac), Vince (Punch), Bill, Jack, Rita (Toot), Loretta (Sis), "Honey" and "Honey Dear" (I don't have those two given names)
Catherine was stricken with polio as a child and was wheelchair bound or bed ridden for the remainder of her life.
William married Mary Redding, and had two daughters: one named Jane who later lived in Cleveland, OH and another daughter who married a John Roberts and resided at State College, PA. If you have any information on my family, or are a relative, please reply.
