I have a fair amount of information on my McAvoy family history, and in a large burial plot in Brooklyn is Herbert G. McEvoy, buried 7/2/1882. He is buried with McAvoys, Gibsons, Johnstons and Wades. My GGrandfather Thomas McAvoy b. 1852 in NY his parents born in NY acc. to 1900 census. The names get crossed and misspelled. This McAvoy family apparently owned the land that the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn bridge was built on, and they leased it to NYC for 100 years for a nominal fee. Family story, no hard facts yet. I think Thomas McAvoy's brothers daughter was May McAvoy the silent film star. I am seeking info on Thos McAvoy's siblings and parents. His parents may have been James and Margaret McAvoy, and his sister a Sarah McAvoy, but I'm not sure.
