Thank you. This is very interesting and provides context that I didn't have. I must correct a mistake on my previous posting....my John McEntyre married Polly (or Sarah, as one census has her listed)....not Cele/Celia Jane. I haven't found a marriage record yet, but estimate John and Polly were married about 1833, based on ages of their children. Possibly this was John McEntyre's second marriage, as he was some 20 years older than she.
Cele/Celia Jane was one of their daughters, and my line is through her. Perhaps she was named after the Celia Jane McEntyre that you've told me about. She is called "Celia Jane" in the censuses, and "Cele Jane" on her gravestone...she married John Calvin Ellison (formerly Allison...he changed his name) about 1863, probably in Union Co. or thereabouts, though I've yet to find their marriage record. I've ordered Union County records and hope to review them in December, and will re-post if I find anything relevant.
However, my John McEntyre was alive in Union Co. GA for the 1880 census...he would have been about 85 years old at that time....so probably he's not the John C. McEntire in Rutherford Co. NC. Their ages are awfully close, aren't they?
