Humphrey McElyea (b abt 1800)

Has anyone been able to come up with any daughters for Humphrey McElyea son of John and Sarah Boone McElyea?

For years I have been under the impression based on family stories and the 1850 Benton Co TN census that Elizabeth McElyea born about 1837 TN was the daughter of Daniel and Nancy McElyea. Daniel was the son of Humphrey and his unknown wife.

Another McElyea researcher has contended that Daniel and Nancy McElyea's daughter Elizabeth was not the one who married William Cornelius Perry but married Harris Camp and then moved to Arkansas and Oklahoma. The two Elizabeth's along with at least one other Elizabeth McElyea are all within a few years of age of each other and as a result it's hard to tell who's who.

I have a marriage license for Elizabeth J McElyea and William C Perry from Weakley Co TN and it indicates that Elizabeth was a resident of said county. Going through some county websites today (9 Oct 2002), I found in the 1850 census the following -

H. McYelea       50       M       300       Unk
Nancy              35       F        TN
Jane              12       F              TN
James              8       M              TN
Robert              6       M              TN

In the 1870 Weakley Co TN census there is a Umphrey McElay at age 78 years. I believe that the H McYelea and Umphrey McElay are Humphrey McElyea son of John and Sarah Boone McElyea. This also leads me to believe if this is true that Humphrey married a second time and had a second family which included Jane who I believe is Elizabeth Jane McElyea who married William Cornelius Perry. The age for Elizabeth Jane and Jane are in line with a birth of 1837 or 1838.

I'm hoping that this is right and if so then the stories about the relationship to Daniel and Nancy McElyea are incorrect when there was mention that Daniel was the father and should have been referred to as a half-brother.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
