All I have is from an old book:"Old King William Homes and Families" (1897), McElwee is listed as an "old family." King William County is very close to Frederick in VA. The book states "William McElwee(I). Of County Tyrone, Ireland, of an eminent Scotch-Irish family. Had two sons: David and William (II)." The passage goes to describe William II as born in County Tyrone and emigrating in 1750 to Pennsylvania where he married Janet Black. Then he moved to York District, South Carolina. Now we know that our David emigrated with his brother William about 1750. We can conclude that this William II is David's brother, William(I) is his father and David's son is also a William who then became a father to Sarah, John H., William, David, James H., Isaac R., Margaret K., and Andrew Jackson.
