Michael,
I have seen those three McElwees born in Virginia but have never seen any confirmation of that data anywhere. Have you ever come across any prove of them? I've been searching out that info for a long time and would appreciate any info on them. Also your David born Virginia in 1795, do you have a location in Virginia or S.C.? The Abbeville, S.C. McElwees are related to the York Co., S.C. McElwees. The earliest McElwee I have is David McElwee buying land in Abbeville, 96 District, S.C. in 1762. I have found five McElwees in the Abbeville, S.C. area in the 1760s and 1770s. They are David, John, William Daniel and James. These are all listed in the Library of Virginia website which has info on 56 McElwees. Also Michael, have you ever heard on the Lord Lietram incidence in 1787 in County Donegal? My relatives in County Donegal(Fanad) are related to that Michael McElwee. My McIlwee family spelled their name McElwee as late as 1881. The Frederick County, Virginia also use the McIlwee spelling. Also, William Meek McElwee born 1861 use to ride aboard "Traveller" Robert E. Lees horse around the Rockbridge County, Virginia countryside after Lee moved to Lexington to become president of Washington and Lee University. William Meeks parents hosted a dinner for the Lees at the McElwee home on Lees first night in Lexington.William Meek McElwees parents were william M. McElwee who married Anna Harvey.William M. McElwees father was John Robinson McElwee John Robinsons father was John Calvin McElwee born 1765 and John Calvin McElwees father was William McElwee born 1718. William M. McElwee was a pallbearer for Stonewall Jackson. Check it out. Happy Hunting!!Roy McIlwee, Scranton, Penna.
