Henry McElwee and Mary A. Demster
I am looking for any information on a Henry McElwee who was suppose to have married to a Mary A. Demster.
The only information that I have is that Mary A. Demster came from the port of Belfast( with her parents and siblings) to the port of Phil on July 6, 1847.
Her mother died at sea and her father died abt. 1850 leaving her and her siblings orphaned. Several families from Penn. and New Jerseytook in the children. Mary was abt. 24 when she came to America.
Mary died in 1873 in Iowa. She was married to a joseph Hughes at the time of death. She was born abt. 1825 not sure in Ireland or Scotland.
I don't know where she was married to this McElwee first and then married Joseph before she left Penn. or if there was a mistake in who she married first.
On the records that was given to me from a Dempster ( the name was changed to Dempster over here in America, but some of the children could have still used the name Demster.
Anyway, it says Henry McElwee + Mary A. Demster.
Anyone have any information, please let me know . I am at a brick wall.
Thank you Maxine
