I have a letter dated Jan 3 1889 to my great grandfater, Adam McElrath of Spartanburg, signed J J B McElrath. He states in the letter that he is the son of John McElrath that moved from Spartanburg to Jacksonville, Ala Dec, 1845. The writer of the letter said he was born Oct 1845, was raised in Calhoun Co. Ala and moved to Centre Ala in 1879. He says that in 1882 he visited an uncle Michael in Spartanburg. He states that he has researched the family tree back to 1336 where he found that our family received a land grant from Scotland for service in the war with Robert Bruce. The writer names his wife as a Miss Lee who is an ancestor of Lightfoot Lee of Rev. War fame. His sons names are Joe S. Lee, John W. and Ellis B. If anyone knows who wrote this or where his research on the family is please let me know.
