McEllistrum Family Genealogy Forum

Edmund or Edward McELISTER as found on his birth record was born in Deptford, Greenwich, Kent (now Surrey), England on 8 February 1847, his father was a harness-maker and his mother was a char-woman after his fathers early death before 1851. The family was Catholic from early on and While he married a Wesleyan Methodist, he was still listed as a Catholic at his marriage in 1871, and on the Census of Canada after that. The last recording of him I have located seems to be a mention in his father-in-laws probate file 24 Nov 1888 in Bentinck, Grey, Ontario. It is unclear as to when he emigrated from England, but he settled near a small group of McAllister/ McEllistrum's who originated from County Kerry, Ireland. The patriarch of this group appears to be an Edmond McEllistrum b. c.1803. Since his father was named Edmund, I presume this gent to be his great-Uncle, the brother of his Grandfather whose identity is unknown at this time. I have found no record of the whereabouts of either of his brothers, nor his mother after 1851.
Edmund married Mary Ann VOLLET 15 Sept 1871 in Guelph, Wellington, Ont. they had 5 children.
