M'ELHINNEY DIES AT WATERVILLE Succumbs Following Year's Illness- Was Well Known and Highly Respected Citizen Waterville, Dec. 22---Nicholas B. McElhinney, one of the best known and most highly respected men of this vicinity and a lifelong resident of this village, passed away at his home at 5:30 today. He was first taken ill last May and since that time has been confined to his home. Mr. McElhinney was born here May 20, 1865, the son of William and Margaret McElhinney, natives of Ireland, who came to America about 50 years ago. He had resided in Waterville his entire life with the exception of six years he spent in Pennsylvania. In 1888 he married Lizzie, daughter of Andrew and Ellen Murray of Schuylkill County, Pa. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Bernard's Church and was a man held in the highest regard by a wide circle of friends. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, William A. and John J.; two daughters, Margaret and Alice of this village; four brothers, James of Oriskany Falls, Hugh of Waterville, and John and Thomas of Bridgewater; one sister, Mrs. Albert Almond of Middletown. The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Bernard's Church and interment will be made in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Utica Daily Press...Monday, September 16, 1946 Mrs. E. K. McElhinney Waterville- Elizabeth K. McElhinney, wife of the late Nicholas B. McElhinney, died yesterday in Utica Memorial Hospital, Sept. 15, 1946, following a brief illness. She was born in Pottsville, Pa., Mar. 13, 1865, daughter of the late Andrew and Ellen Mahan Killmurray. She was married to Mr. McElhinney, in Shenandoah, Pa., in 1888, and came to Waterville in 1891, and had lived here ever since then. Her husband died in 1922. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church and the Rosary Society of that church. Surviving are two sons, William A., of Rome, and John J., Waterville; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Marshall, Fishers Island, and Miss Alice McElhinney, Waterville; and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the McLean Funeral Home, Waterville, and at 9:30 from St. Bernard's Church, the Rev. John L. Powers officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Notify Administrator about this message?
