It has been a long time theory that my family, KEACH came from a varient spelling of MacKeachan, which is why I had my name legally changed. In fact, in the "Parochial, Registers, Baptisms, 1763 - 1819, Argyll, Bowmore & Kilarrow Parish, # 536 Microfilm, #1041078" I have found these references: McEachern, McKeech, McEachren, McKichan, McEacharn, McKeachan, McKeachern, McKeachren, McKech, McKechan, McKeichan, McKeichean, McKeighn, McKechnie, McKiachan, McKichein, Mckeadain, Mckeadan, Mckeodain (the last 3 appear to be the same person spelled 3 different ways !) Mchern.
Because I have been unable to find documentation that there is a link between KEACH and MACKEACHAN, my maternal uncle, a KEACH from the Connecticut KEACHs has agreed to be DNA tested and compared to other Scottish surnames. I pass on the this information for anyone with a varient spelling to join the Scottish Clans DNA group. (If you were thinking about DNA testing anyway, this facility gives you a discount when you join a project)

A: compare their specific genealogy
documentation with other members of that
Clan even tho the surname may be
significantly different.
B: compare their DNA test results with other
Clans.
C: The mtDNA test can show if a relationship
exists among the females of the Clans as
well
The connection between Clans and families will
assist in finding other members of the
Clan since there was a strong intermarriage
between the Clans and relationships were
often changed for financial and security
reasons.
The DNA matches ( or non matches) will assist
in narrowing the Genealogy research or perhaps
show that other documentation avenues to
ancestors are possible and should be
explored
