FUNERAL FOR L.S. MCDUFFIE IN GARRISON Funeral services for Leander Sylvester McDuffie, 85, of Garrison will be held Wednesday morning, April 3 at 10 o'clock in the First Methodist Church in Garrison with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery at Garrison. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Spinn of Garrison and the Rev. J. E. Harrell of Lufkin, both Methodist ministers. Mr. McDuffie died Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock in the Garrison Nursing Home. Born Feb. 3, 1878, in Jackson, Miss., Mr. McDuffie was the son of J.M. McDuffie and Mary Stokes McDuffie, both natives of Mississippi. He was married to James Idella Hancock, who preceded him in death. A retired farmer, Mr. McDuffie had lived in Garrison since 1894. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Coy Nutt of Nacogdoches; five sons, Leroy and Bertram McDuffie of Garrison, Tommie McDuffie of Houston, Lewin McDuffie of Texas City, and Ralph McDuffie of Nacogdoches; one brother, Jess E. McDuffie of Garrison; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Troy Corley will be in charge of the song service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Services will be directed by Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home in Nacogdoches.
