Retired businessman Cecil Jarrell dies
Macon, Missouri

Cecil Edwin Jarrell, 83, of Macon and formerly of Shelbyville, died Sept. 27, 1998, at Macon Health Care Center.

Mr. Jarrell and his wife owned and operated a country store in Kellerville, five miles west of Shelbyville, for 35 years before moving to Macon in 1973.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Macon. The Rev. Bill Briley will officiate. Burial will be at Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Mr. Jarrell was born Dec. 20, 1914, in Shelby County to James Roy and Eunice Mildred Waite Jarrell.

He was married to Alberta McDuffee on Feb. 4, 1938. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Truitt of Macon and Margery Utterback of Mars Hill, N.C.; five grandchildren, Lisa Swafford, Lori Kurzejeski and William Truitt, all of Columbia, Matthew Utterback and Leslie Utterback, both of Mars Hill; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Amy Ann Utterback.

After operating his store, Mr. Jarrell sold cars and real estate until his retirement.

Mr. Jarrell had been an active member of Berea Christian Church in Shelby County, where his duties had included serving as elder and Sunday school superintendent. He was currently a member and elder emeritus at First Christian Church in Macon.

He was a 1933 graduate of Shelbyville High School, where he was senior class president of the largest class to graduate from the school.

Mr. Jarrell cared for his ailing wife for nine years before she entered Macon Health Care Center in 1993. He lived with his daughter for more than a year before joining his wife at the Macon Health Care Center in February.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Macon.
