Alberta (McDuffee) Jarrell Macon, Missouri Feb. 11, 1912 - Sept. 13, 2000
SHELBYVILLE Alberta Jarrell, 88, of Macon, died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Macon Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the First Christian Church in Macon. The Rev. Phil Nevius will officiate. Burial will be at Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Jarrell was born Feb. 11, 1912, near Atlanta to Albert Bruce and Ollie Eugenia Carnahan McDuffee.
She was married to Cecil Jarrell on Feb. 4, 1938, in Shelbyville. He preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kay Truitt of Macon and Margery Utterback of Mars Hill, N.C.; five grandchildren, Lisa Swafford, Lori Kurzejeski and William Truitt, all of Columbia, and Matthew Utterback and Leslie Utterback, both of Mars Hill; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dee McDuffee of Atlanta and Raymond McDuffee of Clarence.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Eunice Perry, Effie Perry, Myrtle McLean and Rachael McDuffee.
Mrs. Jarrell had been a resident of the Macon Health Care Center for seven years. Her birthplace was the log cabin built by the McDuffee brothers in 1842 that now stands at the Macon County Fairgrounds Park. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Macon and a 1929 graduate of Atlanta High School. She was a teacher prior to her marriage. She and her husband owned and operated a country store at Kellerville in Shelby County for 35 years before moving to Macon in 1973.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the donor's choice, in care of the church or funeral home.
